Summary List of Alternative Girls AAU Progams in Pittsburgh Area

SLAAM Basketball is a competitive program that demands a high level of commitment.  While striving to teach the game of basketball, respect for team, and commitment to each other, we help our players develop into outstanding people.  We believe that that development starts with a serious commitment from our SLAAM Families and Players.  AAU has several layers of competitiveness and commitment and being part of the SLAAM Family might not be the best fit for everyone, but our goal is also to promote the game of basketball and nurture the love within every child.  So we have some great partners/competitors who share similar visions and they are listed below.  We encourage you and your child to go to at least 2 events sponsored by a program whether open gym, clinic or tryout before selecting the team/program/family you would like to join.

A little  information about CHAOS Girls Basketball.  This will be the 10th AAU season!  Our teams compete at local AAU Tournaments.  We had a team compete at the National level last year and they were the National runner up at the 8th grade level.

CHAOS fees are substantially lower than most AAU programs.  Our coaches are volunteers and NOT paid but have many years of coaching experience and know and love the game.

Teams will practice twice a week and play tournaments every other weekend.  We begin tournament play in Mid March and complete our season at the end of May.  Teams may continue to play if agreed by all parents/players but will be at an additional cost.

Erudite Basketball is a High Quality Program that is based in Westmoreland County

Introducing Erudite Basketball

Kids who are active and involved in sports are more likely to do better in school and lead healthier lifestyles as adults. The mission of Erudite Basketball is to develop the basketball skills of young women while encouraging excellence in the classroom. Our young student-athletes will grow as basketball players through a focus on the fundamentals which in turn allows them to become leaders when they return to their school teams in the fall.

Focus on the Student-Athlete

A student-athlete is defined as a student who participates in an organized competitive sport sponsored by the school in which he or she is enrolled. Student-athletes must balance the roles of being both a student and an athlete at their school. The school could be a grade school or major university. Erudite Basketball was formed with the student-athlete in mind. Our coaches understand the relationship between academic achievement and athletic opportunity…and we reinforce that relationship regularly throughout the season. We actively recruit players who maintain a 3.5 GPA or better to ensure that our kids understand the importance of good grades.
